Katz took the less exciting road to 67, with zero bogeys on the scorecard to five birdies. His scoring came on holes six and seven, where he rolled in consecutive putts, then a stretch of three birdies in four holes from 13-16. Going out in 34 and in for 33, Katz remained steady throughout the round and took full advantage of his scoring opportunities.

Mauro, on the other hand, nearly matched the amount of birdies (7) to pars (9) in his first round. His round included just two blemishes – bogeys on the par-5 eighth and par-4 tenth. He started with three pars, then followed it up with three birdies over the next three holes, including one on the hardest hole of the day, the fifth. Mauro also accounted for one of just four birdies across the field on hole three.

He responded quickly from the eighth hole bogey with his fourth birdie on the ninth. After his second bogey on the tenth, Mauro converted two more birdies on holes 12 and 14 to round out scoring.

The trailers behind Katz and Mauro include Kristopher Boyes (Sheridan Park GC), who carded a 68, followed by Tri-County CC’s Daniel Weimer (-3), and three players at one-under: Wanakah CC’s Jack Tebeau, Crag Burn’s David Hanes and East Aurora CC’s Adam Cichowski.
