Hanes Crowned 100th BDGA Individual Champion
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Billy Hanes of Crag Burn GC claimed the 2023 BDGA Individual Championship Saturday at Orchard Park Country Club. Hanes fired a three-day total of 9-under, 207 to win by one stroke over James Blackwell of River Oaks GC. Blackwell narrowly missed a birdie attempt on the final hole that would have forced a playoff, and Hanes tapped in for par to secure his first BDGA Individual Championship.
Annika Michel of the NYSGA eClub of Western NY won the 2023 BDGA Women's Individual Championship. A key birdie on the par-3 16th helped Michel defeat defending champion Caroline Yarnall of Crag Burn GC by a one-stroke margin.
Brian Kumiega of CCB earned the Low-Senior honor, awarded to the lowest scoring senior after 2 rounds of play. Kumiega edged out Kevin Kaszuba of Shorewood CC with a birdie on the 2nd sudden death playoff after both competitors finished at 6 over-par for two rounds.
