BDGA to Establish the J. Fred Silver Memorial Scholarship
BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Buffalo District Golf Association (BDGA) will establish the J. Fred Silver Memorial Scholarship in 2021. Named for the champion golfer and founder of the Senior Porter Cup, an endowed scholarship will be established, with a number of goals. Junior golfers with intent to pursue a college or trade school education, will apply for the 1-year, renewable scholarship. The BDGA has established a target amount to create the scholarship, a number that will make the fund self-sustaining, and allow for a consistent, annual distribution to recipients. Applicants should be of high moral character, with a demonstrated record of junior competition within the Buffalo District. An application will be made available by the BDGA, and a committee of directors will evaluate applications and make a recommendation each year to the entire board for approval. In honor of their former colleague, the current BDGA Board of Directors has made an initial donation in his name.
