57th Annual Williamson Cup held at the Country Club of Buffalo
WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. -- The Buffalo District Golf Association had the privledge of hosting the 57th Annual Williamson Cup at the Country Club of Buffalo on August 9th & 10th. The Williamson Cup was established in 1964 by A. Fred Williamson, in memory of his father, one of the original founders of the famed Winged Foot Golf Club and a long-time member of the USGA Executive Committee.
The Williamson Cup is an international junior competition that gathers 10 golf associations from the north eastern United States and Canada. Each association is represented by four junior golfers, with the best three scores counting towards the team's overall score. The Williamson Cup is awarded to the association with the lowest team total and the Medalist Trophy awarded to the player with the lowest two round total.
The attending associations for this years event included; Buffalo District Golf Association, Delaware State Golf Association, Golf Association of Philadelphia, Metropolitan Golf Association, Rochester District Golf Association, Syracuse District Golf Association, Washington Metropolitain Golf Association, and Western Pennsylvania Golf Association. In typical years, Golf Ontario and Golf Quebec also attend the prestigous event but were unable to due to current border restrictions.
The BDGA was represented by Jacob Dantonio (Crag Burn GC), Anthony Delisanti (Willowbrook GC), Tyler Delisanti (Transit Valley CC) and Ryan Edholm (Pendleton Creek GC). The team finished in fifth place with a score of 44-over 464.
The Washington Metropolitan Golf Association took home the Williamson Cup after posting a team total of 15-over 435. Washington Metro was represented by Jake Griffin (Kensington, MD), Bryan Kim (Brookeville, MD) Connor McGarrity (Bethesda, MD) and Marshall Meisel (Chevy Chase, MD). Meisel was awarded the Individual Medalist after posting 70-72 for a total of 2-over 142.
