VandenBerg / Monroe Lead 8th U.S. Four-Ball Qualifying at Brookfield
CLARENCE, N.Y. – Sectional qualifying for the 2023 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship was conducted by the New York State Golf Association (NYSGA) at Brookfield Country Club on Thursday, September 29.
Forty sides (80 players) competed for two qualifying places and two alternate positions into next year's championship, which will be hosted by the Kiawah Island Club in Johns Island, SC., May 20-24.

The side of Kevin VandenBerg of Pulaski and Brad Monroe of Syracuse medaled at 8-under 64. Their round consisted of two eagles, five birdies, and a lone bogey on the final hole.
Tied at 65 were sides Kevin Fawcett and Charles Fitzsimmons of Canada, and Buffalo duo Tony Hejna of Cleveland, Oh. and Jamie Miller of Silver Creek.
The two teams played off for the second qualifying position, with Hejna / Miller claiming the spot with a birdie on the first playoff hole, #17. They competed in the 2021 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball, getting in as a first alternate. They lost in a 2-for-1 playoff in 2021 during a qualifier at Springville.
VandenBerg / Monroe qualified for the 2022 USGA championship, where they advanced to match play as the 14th seed, but lost in the Round of 32.
Fawcett / Fitzsimmons will be the first alternate team.
2nd alternate position was also decided by a six-hole playoff. Four sides tied at 66. Luke Smith of Canada and Tim Johnson of Skaneateles came out on top. The playoff started on #18, with Johnson securing it with a birdie on #5 at Brookfield.
The course setup at 7,000 yards and played to a par of 72.
