Upstate NY Claims Victory Over Ontario Golf at 2026 Ada Mackenzie Matches

October 10, 2026

Niagara Falls, Ontario - Team Upstate New York claimed back-to-back titles at the 2026 Ada Mackenzie Matches, defeating Team Ontario 14–6 at Lookout Point following two days of spirited international competition.

Under the guidance of Captain Kim Kaul, (who recently took over for former captain Kitty Colliflower, 2009–2025), the New York squad successfully defended their title from last year, when it was held at Stafford in the Rochester area. Representing New York was several past NYSGA champions, including Kaul, Mary Sicard, Janice LaVigne, Barbara Harrison, and Pennie Carlo. Julie Hamm, Monica Hamilton, Carolyn Mancini, Christy Malo and Stacey Lautenslager were also on this year's team representing the NYSGA.

The victory was secured over a two-day format that challenged the top senior women amateur golfers from Upper New York State and Ontario. The competition opened with 18-hole Chapman matches, followed by five decisive four-ball matches on the second day, where three points were up for grabs in each matchup based on the front nine, back nine, and overall 18-hole totals.

Dating back to 1960, these annual matches represent a wonderful tradition, bringing together some of the top senior women amateur golfers from Ontario and Upper New York State for a premier team competition.

It was especially fitting to host the event at a location so closely tied to the matches' namesake, who stands as one of Canada's most pioneering athletes. Ada Mackenzie amassed 16 career titles between 1919 and 1969 and was the inaugural recipient of the Bobbie Rosenfeld Award as Canada’s top female athlete in 1933. Frustrated by local clubs that prohibited women from playing on weekends—her only days off from work—she famously founded the Ladies Golf Club in Toronto in 1924. It was the only golf club in North America designed specifically for women, cementing a trailblazing legacy that ultimately earned her induction into the Canadian Sports, Golf, and Olympic Halls of Fame.
