PONTRE BEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Two New York State pros are set to compete in the Final Stage of PGA Tour Q-School presented by Korn Ferry, scheduled from December 14-17 at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
Syracuse native Kevin Roy (out of Bradenton, Florida) and James Nicholas of Scarsdale (now resides in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida) both earned their way to the finals, but took different routes.

Nicholas, 26, finished at 9-under 279 during the Second Stage qualifier at Kinderlou Forest GC in Georgia, after medaling during the first stage to earn full status on the PGA TOUR Americas. He was most recently a member of the Korn Ferry Tour in 2020-21 where he made 16/30 cuts. Recently, he finished in an eight-way tied for 22nd during DP World Tour Q-School in Spain, to earn status during the tour's 2024 season (only top 25 earn status).
Roy, 33, bypassed the first three stages, as he was a rookie on the PGA Tour during the 2022-23 season. He collected $478,670 of official money during the 2022-23 season, making 9/31 cuts and recently posted his only top-10 finish at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship in November. Prior to earning his card, he spent three seasons with status on the Korn Ferry Tour. During that time, he made 45/79 cuts, with a runner-up finish, and seven other top-10 finishes.
By advancing to the Finals, the duo is guaranteed at least conditional status on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2024. Results from the Finals will determine which players earn guaranteed starts, and how they’re ordered on field lists early next season. The top five finishers during the final stage will earn 2024 PGA Tour Cards.
Nicholas will tee off on Thursday at 9:54am, while Roy is scheduled to tee off at 10:15am.
Four players from New York State were unable to advance through their respective second stage qualifying sites including Mark Anguiano of New York City, Joshua Goldenberg of Scarsdale, Dan McCarthy of Syracuse (who now resides in Florida), and Michael Miller of Brewster.
