SAVANNAH, G.A. – Syracuse native Dan McCarthy captured his first Web.Com Tour victory by a stroke at the Savannah Golf Championship in Savannah, Georgia with a 16-under total.

It was 33-year-old McCarthy’s 45th start on the Web.com Tour (since 2006) and fifth top-10 finish since earning exempt status in 2017.

“You don’t know that you can do it until you actually do it out here,” McCarthy told PGA Tour.com Staff. “It’s been a slow start to the year. I’ve played pretty well but I just really couldn’t get the putter going. And finally this week it just all opened up. It means the world.”

The former Le Moyne College player propelled himself into the Web.com Tour ranks after an incredible 2016 season on the Mackenzie Tour in Canada with four victories at the Freedom 55 Financial Open, GolfBC Championship, Players Cup and Cape Breton Open. He won the tour’s Order of Merit (after setting a new record for single-season earnings), giving him the exempt status on the Web.com Tour.

He started off 2017 hot at the season-opening The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic, where he held the 18-hole lead and ended up finishing in solo fourth. A wrist injury later caused him to miss a big chunk of that season’s schedule, only competing in about a dozen events total.

Last season, he played in twenty-three events and had three top-10 finishes at the Rust-Oleum Championship, North Mississippi Classic, and the Club Colombia Championship.

After this victory, he jumps up to 8th in Web.com Tour’s Top 25 Rankings. Players who finish the season within the top 25 earn a PGA Tour Card.

McCarthy grew up in the Syracuse area and played college golf for the Le Moyne Dolphins from 2005-2007, and turned professional in 2007. He currently resides in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
