After losing his Tour card after the 2023 season, the Syracuse native broke out for a career season on the Korn Ferry Tour. Roy, 34, qualified for and finished T12 in this year’s Valspar Championship in his only PGA Tour appearance this season. He made seven Top 10 appearances and a pair of runner-up finishes on the Korn Ferry Tour to re-secure his spot on tour.
Roy finished T2 at the Albertsons Boise Open this past weekend to elevate himself to 10th on the Korn Ferry Tour’s points list and punch his ticket back to the big stage. Roy fired four rounds under par (including a nine-under 62 in round one) in the event at Hillcrest Country Club and finished at 19-under par.
After playing collegiately at Long Beach State, Roy turned professional in 2012. He successfully graduated from Qualifying School in 2019 and finished 24th on the Korn Ferry Tour’s points list in 2022 to secure a Tour card for the 2023 season. Roy made 9 of 31 cuts during his first season on tour and had a career best T8 finish at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
Roy’s father Jim was inducted into the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame in 2007. Roy qualified for the PGA Tour in the early 1980s, playing in two U.S. Opens. He is a three-time NYS Mid-Amateur Champion, taking home the title in 2001, 2002 and 2004.
