NYSGA Accepts Over 515 Entries for 101st NYS Men's Amateur Championship

JAMESVILLE, N.Y. – The New York State Golf Association has accepted 516 entries for the 101st New York State Men’s Amateur Championship, to be hosted at Wanakah Country Club in Hamburg, N.Y. July 9-11th, 2024.

Eligible players must hold a Handicap Index at or below 8.4, and must be a member of the NYSGA, defined as 1) belonging to an NYSGA member club or 2) joining the NYSGA as a 2024 NYSGA eClub Member. 

The winner of this year's NYS Men’s Amateur will earn an exemption into the 2024 U.S. Amateur Championship in August at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota. Each of the top-3 finishers will be exempt from local qualifying for the following year (2025). 

Sectional qualifying, to be played over 18 holes, will be conducted at 13 sites around the state from June 10 to July 7 at the following venues: 

June 10 - Lancaster CC (Buffalo) -  115 / 20
June 12 - Red Hook GC (Mid-Hudson) - 47 / 8
June 13 - Moon Brook CC (Jamestown) - 21  / 4
June 13 - Bethpage Yellow (Long Island) - 64 / 10
June 15 - Wayne Hills (Finger Lakes) - 23 / 4
June 15 - Malone East (North Country) - 10 / 2
June 17 - Lake Shore Y&CC (Syracuse) - 36 / 6
June 17 - Mendon GC (Rochester) -  35 / 6
June 17 - Yahnundasis GC (Utica) - 14 / 3
June 21 - Corning CC (Elmira) - 11 / 2 
June 23 - Links at Hiawatha (Bing) - 22 / 4
June 24 - Colonie G&CC (Albany) - 58 / 10

( ##/## denotes the number of players competing for an allocated number of qualifying spots at each site.)

No playoffs will be conducted during sectional qualifying. All players tied for the final allocated spot at a given qualifier will advance to the championship.

EXEMPT PLAYERS

Players in the following categories are exempt into this year's Championship. The NYSGA reserves the right to revise any of the exemption categories. Exempt players must submit an entry prior to the deadline (12PM EST on Wednesday, June 5, 2024)

  • E1. Winners of the NYS Men’s Amateur Championship from the last 20 years

  • E2. From the 2023 NYS Men’s Amateur Championship, the lowest 20 scorers and anyone tied for 20th place. 

  • E3. Winners of the NYS Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship from the last 10 years

  • E4. From the 2023 NYS Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship, the lowest 10 scorers and anyone tied for 10th place.

  • E5. Winners of the 2024 NYS Men’s Four-Ball Championships.

  • E6. From the 2024 NYS Boys’ 18U Amateur Championship, the 5 lowest scorers and ties. 

  • E7. Winner of the 2023 NYS Boys 14U Amateur Championship.

  • E8. From the 2023 NYS Men’s Senior Amateur Championship, the 5 lowest scorers and ties.

  • E9. Most recent (as of July 9, 2024 winner or low amateur (*professional events of the following regional championships:
