Michael Dirkes Hired as New Manager of Regional Associations
JAMESVILLE, N.Y. – The New York State Golf Association (NYSGA) has added a new full-time position of Manager of Regional Associations to the staff in 2023.
Former intern Michael Dirkes has been hired by the association to take over this role, effective immediately.
Dirkes is now responsible for the oversight and support of the NYSGA’s partner regional golf associations (Syracuse, Buffalo, Triple Cities, and soon to be Albany) and other unaffiliated golf competitions in the state. He will work closely with the boards of these associations to provide administrative and on-site support, and ensure their tournaments are conducted at a consistently high level.
“The NYSGA’s leadership continues their investment in competitive golf at the local level, demonstrated with their approval of a new staff position dedicated to their support.” Andrew Hickey said recently when discussing the role. “Mike Dirkes has the experience and disposition to make an immediate impact in this new position with the association and we are thankful that he decided to stay on our team.”
Dirkes was a two-year participant in the USGA P.J. Boatwright, Jr. program in 2021 and 2022. Prior to joining the NYSGA, he earned a bachelor’s degree in the sport media program at Ithaca College in the spring of 2021. Dirkes previously worked at Ledges Golf Club in his home state of Massachusetts, as well as Cornell University in Ithaca.
“I am excited to begin my new role as the Manager of Regional Associations. My two summers as an intern with the NYSGA have afforded me a wealth of great opportunities and invaluable experience. I look forward to building on that experience as I work to help grow the game of golf across New York State through our Regional Associations,” said Dirkes.
