The championship was the culmination of a season-long points race, where thousands of amateur players from around New York State competed in handicapped tournaments for prizes awarded in both gross and net, acquiring points (based on their net finishes) throughout the schedule with hopes of qualifying for the championship. Point totals were calculated based on the sum of each individual player’s top-5 tournament finishes in 2019.
For the second consecutive season, the NYSGA Amateur Series’ presenting sponsor St. Kitts Tourism Authority (SKTA) added some exciting incentives and strengthened player experiences throughout the season and during the championship.
At each event, there was an SKTA closest to the hole contest, with a representative from the islands giving away prizes, rum tastings, and incorporating other mini games into the promotion. All while informing the players of exciting promotions and travel opportunities down to the twin island nation.
At the post-championship banquet and awards ceremony, in addition to handing out gift certificates and winner trophies, two lucky players won an all-expense paid trip to the 10th annual St. Kitts and Nevis Admirals Cup Golf Tournament, February 1-6, 2020.
The winners were selected through a drawing pool, with all the players who qualified for the end-of-the-year championship.
Karl Heath of Wild Wood Country Club and Bob Fenton of SGATOUR.com were the lucky winners and were presented with an all-inclusive trip down to the islands including airfare, lodging, tournament entry, meals, etc.
The NYSGA will be bringing a group down to the islands in February and we encourage members to consider joining us to participate in this exciting trip!
