Green & Wang Compete in 119th U.S. Women’s Amateur
LIBERTY CORNER, N.J. - Melanie Green of Medina advanced to match-play at the 119th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi last week, August 5-11.
Green fell in the Round of 64 to Dylan Kim of Texas, 2 up.

Linda Wang of Plainview missed the cut after carding a 75 and 76 (151) in the first two rounds of stroke play.

LIBERTY CORNER, N.J. – Melanie Green of Medina and Linda Wang of Plainview will compete in the 119th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi next week, August 5-11.

The U.S. Women’s Amateur consists of 156 competitors. The golfers will compete over 36 holes of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday, after which a cut of the low 64 players will be applied. Those who make the cut will advance to match play. Golfers who advance past the five 18-hole rounds of match play, will compete in the 36-hole championship match.
The par-72 layout will be set up at 6,502 yards for next week’s championship.
U.S. Open winner Jerry Pate and course designer Bob Cupp designed Old Waverly in 1988. The course has homed many elite championships, including the 1991 SEC Men's Golf Championship, the 1999 U.S. Women's Open, 2003 Southern Junior Championship, the 2006 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur, 2007 SEC Women's Golf Championship, the 2008 Southern Junior Championship, and the 2015 Southern Amateur Championship.
Green qualified out of Kenwood Golf & Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland. She earned co-medalist honors after shooting a 72. Back in June, Green captured her second straight NYSPHSAA Girl’s Golf Championship at Deerfield Country Club. More recently, Green finished T-6 at the 2019 Girls’ Junior PGA Championships after carding an eight-under 272.
Wang qualified out of Raritan Valley Country Club in Bridgewater, New Jersey. She earned co-medalist honors after shooting a 71. Wang is entering her senior season on the St. John’s women’s golf team. This past season, Wang recorded the best stroke-average on the team and 11th best in the BIG EAST Conference. Before college, Wang claimed an individual title at the WMGA Junior Girls’ Open.
