UPDATED 8/8 -- Two of the four New York State golfers in the field at the U.S. Women's Amateur made the 36 hole cut and progressed to the match play bracket at Southern Hills Country Club. Both Melanie Green and Bailey Shoemaker also claimed their Round of 64 match, advancing to a Round of 32 match on Friday. 

Melanie Green went 70-69 (-3) to finish near the top of the stroke play leaderboard, earning her the second seed in match play. Green made only two bogeys across the two rounds and finished at or under par in every nine throughout both rounds. Green faced off with Paula Martin Sampedro of Spain in the first match. Green came out hot, winning four of the first six holes and eventually closed out the match on the 15th hole. She will face another Spainard, Rocio Tejedo in the Round of 32. 

Bailey Shoemaker finished the two rounds of stroke play at nine over par. Shoemaker made six birdies in her opening round of 73 (+2). After a second-round 78 (+7), Shoemaker found herself in a 20 for 10 playoff. Shoemaker went par-bogey in the first two holes of the playoff, which proved to be enough to qualify. Shoemaker edged Zoe Antoinette Campos of Valencia, California in a 1 up victory in the Round of 64. The two engaged in a tight, back and forth battle, with Shoemaker eventually pulling away on the 18th hole. Shoemaker will square off with Sarah Lim of Saratoga, California in the Round of 32. 

Alice Hodge (+10) and Ina Kim-Schaad (+18) did not make the cut at Southern Hills.

TULSA, OK -- Four amateur golfers from New York State will tee it up at the 124th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship at Southern Hills Country Club August 5-11. Ina Kim-Schaad of Rhinebeck, Bailey Shoemaker of West Edmenston, Melanie Green of Medina and Alice Hodge of Larchmont are the three set to represent the Empire State in Tulsa. 

The Women's Amateur will feature 36 holes of stroke play on August 5th and 6th, at which point the low 64 scorers will progress to match play. Six rounds of match play will follow, with the championship match to be contested over 36 holes on August 11th. The champion will receive an invatition to the 2025 Augusta National Women's Amateur and U.S. Women's Open at Erin Hills. They will also be exempt for the next 10 U.S. Women's Amateurs. 

Southern Hills Country Club, a 27-hole facility that has hosted eight majors and two Tour Championships, will play at 6,437 yards and a Par of 71. The course and slope rating is 79.7/141. The Perry Maxwell-designed course hosted the U.S. Women's Amateur in 1946 and the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur in 1987.

Of the four New York golfers competing, Ina Kim-Schaad, Bailey Shoemaker and Melanie Green all earned an exemption into the field.

Kim-Schaad took the 2024 NYS Women's Amateur Championship which came with the exemption to Southern Hills in addition to the Oak Hill Cup. Kim-Schaad, opened with a Women's course-recrd 66 (-5) and won by five strokes at Skaneateles Country Club. The 40-year-old is no stranger to USGA competition, having won the 2019 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship at Forest Highlands Golf Club. Kim-Schaad finished as the runner-up at the 2000 U.S. Junior Girls' Championship and has also won three Metropolitan Women's Amateur Championships. Kim-Schaad splits her time between Rhinebeck and Jupiter, Florida. 

Bailey Shoemaker was granted exemption thanks to her performance at the 2022 U.S. Women's Amateur at Chambers Bay. The then-17 year-old cracked the semi-final match before losing to the eventual champion Saki Baba of Japan. Shoemaker made it to the round of 16 at last year's Women's Amateur at Bel-Air Country Club and has participated in three Augusta National Women's Opens. Shoemaker has made three LPGA starts, including at the U.S. Women's Open, making the cut at each. At the State level, Shoemaker won three consecutive NYS Junior Girls' titles (2017-19) as well as the Florida Women's Amateur in 2022. Originally from West Edmenston, Shoemaker presently resides in Dade City, Florida and plays collegiately at the University of Southern California. 

Melanie Green earned her exemption by way of her milestone victory at the 2024 R&A Women's Amateur Championship in Ireland. Green defeated Scotland native Lorna McLoymont 2 Up in the final match, becoming the first American to take the championship since 1996. Green was a two-time NYSPHSAA champion representing Medina High School and committed to the University of South Florida as New York State's Number 1 Recruit in the Class of 2020. At South Florida, Green was a four-time All-Conference selection and made nine top Top 10 finishes in 2024. 

Alice Hodge, the final New Yorker at Southern Hills, fired a four-under 67 to grab the second of three qualifying spots at the Country Club of Salisbury (NC). Hodge, who just completed her senior season at Florida State University, finished with a four-year stroke average of 74.27 and set the program record with a career low round of 65.
