The junior at Union Endicott High School was in a close fight for the lead on the final day. His 2-over 146 (73-73) was enough for him to secure a spot in a playoff for the state championship against Brody Burgess, Victor High School sophomore, who shot a low second round of 70.
Bertoni sank a lengthy birdie putt to win the first playoff hole and win the state championship.
Owen Corby, a senior at Pittsford Sutherland High School, turned in a 4-over 148 (74-74) to claim third place. In fourth place, Jackson Saroney of Jamesville Dewitt shot a 6-over 150 (78-72).
Rounding out the top five was a three-way tie for fifth place. Matt Carpentier, teammate of Owen Corby, finished at 7-over 151 but had the low round of the tournament with a 69 on day two. Rocco Randazzo of Lewiston-Porter and Danny Wehle of Bishop Kearney also finished tied for fifth.
Players advance to the state championship via sectional qualifying.
