Cavaliere Joins Two NYS Pros at 123rd U.S. Open
LOS ANGELES, C.A. -- Two professional golfers and one amateur from New York State will be in the field during the 2023 U.S. Open Championship, June 15-18, at the historic Los Angeles Country Club.
Christian Cavaliere of Katonah, will be making his first U.S. Open appearance as one of 19 amateurs in the field. The 25-year-old amateur shot 67-69–136 (-6) during the Final Stage qualifier on June 5th at Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, New Jersey, to collect one of four spots. Cavaliere played collegiate golf at Boston College and graduated in 2020. He had actually not played a competitive round of golf since September of 2022, before his recent U.S. Open qualifying rounds. He had two spectacular rounds at the Final Stage qualifier and in the second round, Christian made 6 birdies on the back 9 to secure his spot in California. Although this is his first U.S. Open, he’s qualified for the last three U.S. Amateur Championships. He also won the Westchester Amateur three years in a row from 2017-19.

Andrew Svoboda, who hails from New Rochelle, also qualified out of Canoe Brook in New Jersey. This will be his fifth U.S. Open appearance. The head pro at Great River GC in Connecticut has had an impressive golf career and a shining resume, formerly competing on the Korn Ferry Tour and on the PGA Tour. Andrew has won 3 times on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2013 and 2016. His success has also transferred over to the PGA Tour where he has made 32 cuts in 78 events played. His best finish on Tour was in 2014 when he finished Runner-Up in the Zurich Classic. Recently, he’s won two Metropolitan Opens and two New York State Opens.
2022 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year, Cameron Young, is part of the quartet from the Empire State. The Scarborough native was not able to make the cut last year at The Country Club, but seems to be close to breaking through at a Major Championship any time now and currently sits in 17th on the World Golf Rankings. He’s registered three top 10 finishes on the PGA Tour so far this season.
Los Angeles Country Club will be set up at 7,423 yards and will play to a par of 35-35—70.
