AUGUSTA, G.A. – Westchester native Cameron Young will make his debut at Augusta National Golf Club this week during the 2022 Masters Tournament, scheduled April 7-10, 2022.

The 24-year-old professional from Scarborough secured his first invitation after climbing into the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), where he currently sits in 46th.

Young finished T2 at the Genesis Invitational at historic Riviera Country Club in late February. His performance at Riviera alone boosted him from 113th to 53rd in the OWGR. He also finished 16th and 13th respectively at the recent Honda Classic and Arnold Palmer Invitational events. He’s played in thirteen events played this season, made eight cuts, and secured two top-10s (his first was during the Sanderson Farms Championship in September of 2021).

“I’m more comfortable than I thought I would be. I thought I’d be nervous hitting the first tee shot during the practice round today. I feel comfortable out here, I love the golf course. I think we’ll have a really nice week,” Young mentioned after his Monday practice round.

He currently ranks second on the PGA Tour in driving distance at 319.6 yards and fourth in shots gained: off-the-tee (.776).

“I typically drive it quite well, and I think that’s rewarded out here. The driving you can make it simpler from hitting good tee shots. I know it’s very complicated around the greens and very tricky. I have a lot to learn, but if I can keep my wits about me and make smart decisions around the greens, I’ll be alright.”

Young is set to tee off Thursday morning at 8:55am, paired with another Master’s rookie Min Woo Lee, and Hudson Swafford. On Friday, the group will tee off at 12:02pm.

This will be Young’s third appearance in a Major. He previously appeared in two U.S. Open’s, 2021 and as an amateur in 2019.
