Buffalo's Dantonio Reaches Semifinals at Women's Western Amateur
JAMESVILLE, N.Y. – East Aurora’s Chelsea Dantonio advanced into the semifinals of match play at the 2020 Women’s Western Amateur at Prestwick Country Club in Frankfort, Il.

The Women’s Western Amateur, first held in 1901, is among the oldest annual championships in women’s amateur golf. Each year, it attracts many of the top amateurs and collegiate golfers from around the world.
120 top amateurs competed over 36 holes of stroke play qualifying, with the top 32 advancing into match play. The Crag Burn Golf Club member earned the 22nd seed after the shooting 148 (73-75).
In match play, she won 5&4 win over Marissa Kirkwood (Illinois) in the Round of 32. She then edged Marissa Wenzler (Ohio) during the Round of 16, 1 up. She beat Mary Parsons (Canada), 3&2, in the quarterfinals before eventually falling to Jackie Lucena (California) in the semifinal, 7&6.
Dantonio recently graduated from Winthrop College in 2019 and was a leading member of the women’s golf team. She’s also a two-time NYS Women’s Amateur runner-up (2018-19), and 2015 NYS Girls' Junior Amateur runner-up.
