Almost 500 Applicants Accepted for the NYS Men's Amateur Championship
JAMESVILLE, N.Y. -- The New York State Golf Association has accepted 486 entries for the 99th New York State Men’s Amateur Championship at Onondaga Golf & Country Club in Fayetteville, N.Y., August 9-11.

To be eligible, a player must have a Handicap Index not exceeding 8.4, and must be a member of the NYSGA, defined as either (1) belonging to an NYSGA member club or (2) joining the NYSGA as a 2022 NYSGA eClub Member.
Sectional qualifying, played over 18 holes, will be conducted at 14 sites around New York from Sunday, June 26 to Sunday, August 7 at the following venues:

July 2 - Watertown GC (Watertown) - 26/4

July 6 - Lancaster CC (Buffalo) - 36/6
July 6 - Red Hook GC (Mid-Hudson) - 37/6
July 7 - Yahnundasis GC (Utica) - 42/6
July 9 - Malone - East (N. Country) - 11/2
July 9 - Wayne Hills CC (Finger Lakes) - 25/4
July 11 - Bethpage Yellow (Long Island) - 60/9
July 14 - Timber Banks GC (Syracuse) - 33/5
August 7 - Drumlins CC - Last Chance Qualifier - TBD
( ##/## denotes the number of players competing for an allocated number qualifying spots at each site.)
No playoffs will be conducted during sectional qualifying. All players tied for the final allocated spot at a given qualifier will advance to the championship.
There will also be a “Last Chance Qualifier” on August 7th at Drumlins Country Club. The Sunday qualifier will be open to players who have already attempted to qualify at a previous site.The field is limited to the first 54 players to register. A minimum of three (3) qualifying spots for a full field. The final number of spots available will be posted on August 7 at 12pm. Ties for the last qualifying spots and alternates will be broken by playoff.
Onondaga Golf & Country Club has been home to some of the most memorable moments in New York State Golf History. It previously hosted the men’s amateur in 1940 and 1961 and saw wins by Ray Billows and Don Allen, both New York State Golf Association Hall of Famers. The NYSGA is proud to have the men’s amateur return to Onondaga.

The number of exempt players into the championship could increase based on the performance of amateurs in other regional championships and tournaments around New York State (see below).

Players in the following categories are exempt into this year's Championship. The NYSGA reserves the right to revise any of the exemption categories. Exempt players must submit an entry prior to the deadline.
- E1. Winners of the NYS Men's Amateur Championship from the last 20 years
- E2. From the 2021 NYS Men's Amateur Championship, the 20 lowest scorers and anyone tied for 20th place
- E3. Winners of the NYS Men's Mid-Amateur Championship from the last 10 years
- E4. From the 2021 NYS Men's Mid-Amateur Championship, the 10 lowest scorers and anyone tied for 10th place
- E5. Winners of the 2022 NYS Men's Amateur Four-Ball Championships
- E6. From the 2022 NYS Boys' 18U Amateur Championship, the 5 lowest scorers and ties
