ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Four professional golfers from New York State will be in the field during the 2023 PGA Championship, May 18-23, at the historic Oak Hill Country Club's famed East Course.

2022 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year Cameron Young leads the quartet from the host state. The Scarborough native finished in the top 5 last year at Southern Hills and seems to be close to breaking through at a Major Championship any time now.

Another tour player, Brandon Wu of Scarsdale (born in California) is also competing in this year’s field. He currently ranks 91st on the PGA Tour and has posted two top-5 finishes on the PGA Tour so far this season: 2nd at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February and more recently 3rd at the Mexico Open a couple of weeks ago.

They are joined by Alex Beach of Westchester Country Club and Chris Sanger of Woodstock Golf Club. The two Empire State club pros qualified for the championship through the Professional Golf Association's "Team of 20" Club Professionals. They secured their spots in the field based on their finish in this April's PGA Professional Championship at Twin Warriors Golf Club in New Mexico.

Beach will be playing in his sixth PGA Championship. The 33-year-old from Minnesota finished the 2020 PGA Championship as the Low Club Professional at 4-over. He finished T11 during the 2023 PGA Professionals Championship.

Sanger, from Red Hook, will be making his first appearance after an impressive showing at the 2023 PGA Professionals Championship, where he finished T17, and was trending in the top-5 during most of the championship. During the final round he was near the bubble and inevitably qualified by knocking in his bogey putt on the final hole during the national event in New Mexico. The 37-year-old club professional at the 9-hole course located in the Catskill Mountains, grew up playing in NYSGA Amateur Championships during his high school years. He didn’t play college golf, but eventually received his PGA certification and found his way to Woodstock shortly after winning the Woodstock Open during a playoff in 2014. This will be his first appearance in the PGA Championship.
