Will Thomson Wins Second Consecutive Boys' Title
Greece, NY - After shooting a 8-under 64 in the first round, Will Thomson held a commanding 11 stroke lead over the field. A final round of even par (72) seemed bland compared to his amazing opening score, but it was good enough to secure his second consecutive N.Y.S. Boys’ Amateur Championship title.
Thompson opened his second round with a bogey on the first, but quickly got back to even par with a birdie on the second hole. He would bogey six and birdie nine, to make the turn at even par.
On the back nine, Thomson put it on cruise control and made par on holes 10-15, but would give one back with a bogey on 16, the short 279 yard par-4. He then parred 17 and finished with a birdie on the last to win the title by 21 strokes.
Kyle Gilroy (Manlius) finished in second place after posting rounds of 80-77 for a 157 total. Tied for third was Aidan Shaw (Orchard Park) and Ryan Zogby (New Hartford), both finishing at 158.
