Two New Yorkers to Tee it Up at 3rd U.S. Adaptive

UPDATE 7/10 -- Each of the two New Yorkers in the field at the U.S. Adaptive Open finished in the Top 15 of their respective gender brackets.

Nancy Lee turned in another strong performance at a U.S. Adaptive Open, finishing in the top ten for the second straight year. Lee went 82-86-81 across the three rounds to finish in ninth place in the women's field. Her 33-over tournament was good for third in the Lower Limb Impairment bracket. 

Ricky Reilly went 74-73-74 for a total of 221 (+4). He concluded his first appearance at a U.S. Adaptive Open in a two-man tie for 14th place. The four over tournament came in at third best in the Men's Short Stature category.

NEWTON, K.S. – Two golfers will be representing New York State at the 3rd U.S. Adaptive Open at Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kansas July 8-10.

New York City’s Nancy Lee will make her second consecutive appearance at the event. She finished T11 in last year’s event, shooting sixty-over par, 276 in the 54-hole tournament. Lee, 57, is representing the Empire State in the Lower Limb Impairment Category

Ricky Reilly of Syracuse is making his first start at a U.S. Adaptive Open. Reilly, 23, will be one of five players registered under the Short Stature impairment category. Apart from golf, Reilly grew up playing hockey and now coaches at the high school level.

The U.S. Adaptive Open features 18 holes of stroke play across three rounds - to be played on Monday, July 8th through Wednesday July 10th. This year’s tournament will introduce a 36-hole cut, with the Top 20 and ties (Men) and Top 10 and ties (Women), as well as Top 3 and ties from each impairment category moving on to the final round on Wednesday. Those within five strokes of the leader in their impairment category will also progress. 

The national championship aims to showcase the world’s best golfers with a wide range of disabilities. The tournament is open to any male or female amateur player with a Handicap Index of 36.4 or less and an eligible impairment confirmed by WR4GD Pass. 

This year's field includes 96 players, with spots reserved for at least five male players and two female players in each of the eight impairment categories: 

  • Arm Impairment 

  • Leg Impairment 

  • Multiple Limb Amputee 

  • Vision Impairment 

  • Intellectual Impairment 

  • Neurological Impairment 

  • Seated Players 

  • Short Stature
