Three Qualify at Shaker Ridge For 42nd U.S. Mid-Amateur
ALBANY, N.Y. – Three players advanced into the 42nd U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship out of the NYSGA-conducted sectional qualifier at Shaker Ridge Country Club on Monday.
Evan Russell of St. Albans, Vermont, Kurt Flionis of Woburn Mass. And Matthew Cowgill of Weston, Mass. all qualified at even par 71 and co-medaled.

Both alternates shot 2-over 73, with Ryan Borruso of Tampa, Florida (a Rome, N.Y. native) earning First Alternate, while John Meyers of Basking Ridge, New Jersey is Second Alternate. After both making pars on the first playoff hole, Borruso secured the first spot with a par on the second, while Meyers made bogey. The other two players who finished at 73 did not stick around for the playoff.
The Jim Thompson layout played to 6,837 yards.
This year’s U.S. Mid-Amateur will be held at Sleepy Hollow Country Club in Scarborough-on-Hudson, September 9-14, 2023. Fenway Golf Club in Scarsdale will be the stroke play co-host during the national championship.
