Sicard and Rivizzigno Lead in Women's Senior & Super Senior Championships
Lake Placid – New York’s top women senior golfers descended upon Lake Placid’s Whiteface Club & Resort to compete in the 64th NYS Women’s Senior Amateur Championships. The golfers are competing in two divisions, the senior for women ages 50-64 and the super senior for women ages 65-69.
In the senior division, Queensbury’s Mary Sicard jumped out to the first round lead after posting a very impressive 1-over par 74 on the difficult Adirondack course, which is playing at 5,350 yards and a par of 73. Sicard started off her round on the 279 yard par-4 10th, and struggled with a double-bogey 6. She added birdies on the 14th and 17th, and a bogey on the 16th, to make the turn at 1-over par.
The Senior Leaderboard
On her second nine, Sicard had consecutive bogeys on holes 2 and 3, but would get back those strokes with birdies on the par-5 5th and the 7th, a 331 yard par-4.
In second place is Monroe GC’s Tammy Blyth, who is 3-over par with an opening 76. Past champions Nancy Kroll (Schenectady Muni GC), Teresa Cleland (Bellevue CC), and Carina Watkins (Beaver Meadows GC) are in striking distance, with rounds of 77, 78, and 78 respectively.
In the super senior division, Drumlins CC’s Judy Rivizzigno holds a 4-stroke lead over the field after posting a 6-over par round of 79 on the 4,954 yard layout. Rivizzigno started on the front nine, and had 5 bogeys to go along with a birdie on the par-5 5th to make the turn in 40. On the second nine she would stumble with a bogey on 11 and d double on 12, but then birdied 15, doubled 16, and birdied 17 and 18 to finish in 39.
The Super Senior Leaderboard
In a tie for second four off the pace is Drumlins CC’s Pat Roadarmel and Maxine Tucker, both with 83s. Defending champion Cecily Havens of the Pompey Club is in a tie for fourth with two-time champion Gail Brophy at 86.
