West Edmeston's Shoemaker advanced through stroke play on Tuesday at 3-over, tied for 53rd, and advanced to the round of 64. She met California's Kaleiya Romero in the first round of match play.
The match was tight to begin with and through nine holes the players remained tied. Shoemaker pulled ahead on the par-4 tenth and increased her lead with a birdie on no.12. She closed out the match on no.14 and no.15, winning both holes to take the match 4 and 3.
The round of 32 featured Shoemaker and Tennessee's Kynadie Adams in a back-and-forth match.
On the first hole of the match, Shoemaker jumped out to an early lead with a par and increased her lead with a birdie on the par-3 third.
Adams eventually pulled even on no. 7, before Shoemaker snatched back the lead. The Tennessean battled back each time she was down, until Shoemaker birdied the par-4 16th.
The two players matched each other on the final two holes and Shoemaker took the match 1 up.
In the round of 16, Shoemaker squared off against another Californian. Amari Avery was the first opponent to take a lead over Shoemaker in match play.
Avery held a lead as late as through 13, before Shoemaker took three of the last five holes to win 2 up and advance.
Shoemaker turned in a dominant performance in the quaterfinals as she didn't lose a single hole against Leigh Chien. She took the match 5 and 3, and moved on to face Japan's Saki Baba in the semifinals.
As dominant as Shoemaker was in the quaterfinals, it was reversed in the semifinals. Shoemaker was only able to win one hole, no. 8, and lost the match 7 and 6.
Baba would go on to win the championship, winning the final round against Canada's Monet Chun 11 and 9.
The U.S. Women's Amateur was Shoemaker's fourth USGA event of 2022. Her only higher finish came with partner Kaitlyn Schroeder at the U.S. Women's Four-Ball Championship in April.
Aliea Clark made it to the round of 64 before being eliminated. She fell to Leigh Chien on the 19th hole.
Melanie Green turned in a strong performance in stroke play, finishing tied for 11th at 11-under. However, she fell in the round of 64, 5 and 3, to Rachel Heck.
Alice Hodge, Kaitlyn Lee and Ina Kim-Schaad all missed the cut to advance to match play.
