Scorse and Condello Lead Heading to the Final Round of the 2016 NYS Men's Mid-Amateur Championship
Stafford, NY- Fall weather has moved into Upstate New York this weekend. After the chilly and damp first round, players were greeted with low-temps and a stiff breeze for round 2. The field has been cut to the low 30 players and ties for the final day of the 33rd NYS Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Stafford Country Club. The cut line was 151.
Tied for the lead is Adam Condello of Locust Hill Country Club and Stafford Country Club member, Jim Scorse. The pair are at 3-under par, 141. Condello came from behind after his 2-over par 74 during round one and posted an impressive 67 to put himself tied for the lead. Condello was the runner-up at the 2014 and 2015 NYS Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship and tied for runner-up at the 2015 NYS Men’s Amateur Championship. Jim Scorse put together two respectable rounds at his home club, carding 72-69-141. Scorse won the NYS Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship in 2015 and won the NYS Men’s Amateur Championship in 2005. The pair hold a two stroke lead going into Sunday.
Kyle Downey, also out of Locust Hill Country Club, is in third place. Downey shot 68 in his opening round and followed up with a 75 during round 2 for a two-day total of 143. Colby Anderson and Ken Starkweather are tied for 4th at even par. Anderson, of Northshore Country Club, carded 68-76-144. Starkweather posted two even-par rounds, 72-72, for 144.
Tee-times begin at 8:00am for the final round with live scoring every six holes.
