The recent graduate of Jamesville Dewitt High School in Syracuse New York claimed the NYSPHSAA 2025 Boys Golf State Championship setting the record for the lowest score of 36 holes in NYSPHSAA golf history. Saroney finished his round today with four birdies and an eagle.

“This place is really tight off the tee… I feel like I played smart overall.”

“I feel like I putted pretty well, I made a lot of crucial putts, I didn't have my best stuff hitting wise, but the putter made up for part of it.”

“I say this is my favorite two weeks of golf with this event and NYS Men' s Am. So this one has been circled on my calendar, to get off to a nice start is really nice.”

Behind Saroney at one-under par is Jack Tebeau, of Wanakah Country Club and Liam Moloney, of The Golf Club at Mansion Ridge. Tebeau fired in two eagles on his score card along with two birdies. Tebeau is committed to play Division I golf at Binghamton University. Moloney won the last two MET PGA Section Junior Championships, and trails Saroney by two shots, he is committed to play Division I golf at Loyola University in Maryland.

Moloney on his one-under round, “I made some key up and downs in the beginning of my round and my driver was good. I’d say 8 was my best birdie…it got my round going.”

Two players are tied at even par shooting 70, last year’s NYS Boys 14U Champion Tanner LaTorre had a solo birdie on the card. Joe Carey from Youth On Course - MGA threw in three birdies on the day.

Thomas Goodelle, of Yahnundasis Golf Club followed the pack in solo sixth coming in at one over for the first round. Brayden Sentz, of Leatherstocking Golf Course and Micheal Jordan, of Craig Burn both finished at two over par.

The 18-hole cut-line came in at +7, with the low 42 players (and ties) advancing. All in all, 42 players in the Boys’ 18U field progressed to the final 36 holes.

The first of two rounds tomorrow is set to begin at 7:30 am.
