Sample and Green Compete at 2019 AJGA Rolex Tournament of Champions
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FLA.-- Each year the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) hosts a year-end invitational in conjunction with the Rolex Junior All-American Awards Banquet, known as the Rolex Tournament of Champions.
The 42nd annual invitational was played at PGA National Resort & Spa’s Champion & Fazio Courses (two rounds at each), from November 25-28. The field consisted of the top 144 junior golfers in the world from 27 states and 8 countries.

Two represented New York overall, including Luke Sample of MGA eClub – NYC in the Boys’ Division and Melanie Green of Shelridge Country Club in the Girls’ Division.
The format was 72 holes of stroke play, with the courses lengthened to 7,000+ yards for the Boys’ and 6,300+ yards for the Girls’.
New York City’s Sample, who’s already a three-time New York State titleholder (2017 NYS Sub-Junior, 2018-19 NYS Junior) finished in a tie for 44th at 9-over 295.
Medina’s Green, who won the 2018-19 NYSPHSAA Girls’ Golf Championships, tied for 60th place after posting a 24-over 312.
Sample, a verbal commit to Duke University for 2021-22, played in 9 AJGA events this season including a victory at the AJGA Junior All-Star at Windsor in March. He also posted two runner-up finishes at the Justin Thomas Junior Championship and the Eagle Crest Junior Championship. He currently sits at 54th on the Rolex AJGA Rankings.
Green, who’s headed to University of South Florida in 2020-21, earned a spot after making the 2019 AJGA Rolex All-American Team as an Honorable Mention. She competed in 9 AJGA events in 2019 and holds a current Rolex AJGA rank of 38th.
