Goodman got off to a great start, three-under through six, with three birdies. She took advantage of the short par-4 12th hole with another birdie. On the par-5 14th hole she chipped her third shot to tap-in range for another easy birdie. She recorded fours on three of the four par-5s.
“I just had confidence in myself and stayed in the moment,” Goodman said. “Some of the holes were pretty short so it gave you an opportunity to get close and on the par-5s you could go for it in two.”
Goodman was the only player in the field to go bogey-free. She said it was the first time she’s accomplished that feat. She also said her round of 67, five-under, was a personal best. Goodman finished 14th in this tournament last summer.
“It feels amazing, I’ve been waiting for this moment for years so I’m very proud of myself,” Goodman said.
Nina Choe, of Pelham Country Club, came the closest to Goodman with a round 68. Like Goodman, Choe also went three-under in the first six holes with a 33 on the out. On the back-nine she birdied the par-4 11th and the par-5 17th. Her lone bogey came on the par-3 13th hole.
“I was striking the ball really well, I was hitting it well off the tee and got a lot of approach shots close to the pin,” Choe said. “My putting wasn’t great today… overall it was a solid round.”
Choe finished last year’s tournament in fifth place. Yasmina Oralkhan finished in sixth, and today finished a stroke behind Choe, tied for third at two-under. Oralkhan (MGA eClub, New York City) recorded five birdies, including holes 17 and 18, but also made three bogies.
Hayden Knapp tied for third place with a round of 70, two-over. A member at Glens Falls CC, Knapp eagled the par-5 fourth hole and had three straight birdies between holes 12-14. Knapp tied for seventh in last year’s tournament and recently won the 2026 NYSPHSAA Girls Golf Championships.
Also tied for third is last year’s runner-up Alexandra Phung, who eagled the sixth hole, a par five. She found the water on the ninth hole, making a double bogey but only added one other blemish to the scorecard.
All players shooting higher than 83 were cut. Two rounds will be contested tomorrow to determine a winner of the 54-hole tournament with tee times starting at 6:30 a.m.
