
PREVIEW: 2025 NYS Boys' & Girls' 14U Junior Amateur Championships
CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. – The 68th Boys' 14U Junior and 3rd Girls' 14U Junior Amateur Championships will be held at Eagle Crest Golf Club August 11-12 2025.
The 43 players will be split, with 34 golfers competing in the Boys' 14U and 9 competing in the Girls' 14U. Each field will tee off for 36 holes of individual stroke play across two rounds.
This year's tournament marks the first time Eagle Crest will host a New York State championship, and the second time the 14U championships have split off from the 18U, which were played earlier this season at McGregor Links Country Club in Wilton, N.Y. The Boys 14U, formerly called the Boys' Sub-Junior, had previously been played concurrently with the Boys' 18U since the inaugural boys' tournament was held in 1957 at Wanakah CC.

Tanner LaTorre of NYSGA eClub- Capital Region came from behind, firing a one-under final round with four birdies on his card with rounds of 70-70 (2 under) and claimed the title by one stroke at Green Lakes State Park GC.
*He will not be defending this year, as he turned 15 years old and is no longer eligible.
Natalie Wasik of Lockport Town & Country Club ran away after a first round of 73, then fired a final round of 68 (3 under), and claimed the 14U Girls' Junior Amateur by seven strokes.

Eligibility: Play is open to male and female amateur golfers who are 14 years old or younger as of August 11, 2025*, have an up-to-date USGA Handicap Index from a NYSGA Member Club, and are residents of New York State or are active NYSGA members.

THE FIELD
Players to Watch in the Boys' 14U Field
Francisco Cupp, 14, of Saratoga Golf and Polo Club, led this tournament a year ago. Going into the final round, he finished runner-up to LaTorre. He is currently ranked 1,246 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings with a top 10 finish in the AJGA Junior All-Star at Webster. Recently, he competed in the NYS 18U Junior Championship at McGregor Links Country Club, where he put together rounds of 75-70-74 and nine over for the Championship. He finished T14.
Michael Jordan, 14, of Crag Burn Golf Club, was in the top 10 after the first round in the NYS 18U Boys Junior Championship earlier this year, with rounds of 72-75-78; he ultimately finished in T27. Last year, he won the BDGA Boys' 14U Player of the Year Award, having won the BDGA Boys' 14U Match Play Championship and finished as runner-up at the BDGA Boys' 14U Stroke Play Championship. Last year in the NYS Boys' 14U Junior, he finished T9.
Brayden Thomas, 13 of Drumlins Golf Club, placed in solo eighth place a year ago in this Championship with rounds of 76-73 (7 over par). This year, Thomas has achieved a pair of top finishes, securing both the Junior PGA Championship qualifier at Pompey Club and the Optimist Qualifier at Sunset Ridge Golf Club. Along with that, he placed T3 in the Junior AIM Championship at Mark Twain GC and finished T7 at the CNYPGA Junior Open at Highland Park.
Ryan Choi, 14 of Youth on Course - MGA, recently placed T30th in the AJGA Junior All-Star at York, at Regents' Glen Country Club, where he shot three over par for the tournament with rounds of 75-71-73. He also placed T3 in the 104th Long Island Junior, Boys' and Girls Championship, finishing at two over par.
Braeden Lee, 14, of NYSGA Youth on Course, is currently ranked 2,339th in the Rolex AJGA Rankings Statistics, with his most recent competition in the Boys' Junior PGA Championship. He also placed T25 in the AJGA Junior All-Star at Webster. Last year in this Championship, he placed solo 19th with rounds of 76-82 (16 over par).
Ryden Klatt, 14, of Edison Club, placed T12th in last year's Championship with rounds of 77-74 (9 over par). Recently, he brought home the NENY PGA JGT Summer Major #3 at Western Turnpike GC. Earlier in July, he placed 3rd in the NENY PGA Junior Championships-Major #1 at Waubeeka and was runner-up at the NENY PGA JGT Summer Classic #5 at McGregor Links C.C.
Past NYS Girls’ 14U Champions in the Field
Natalie Wasik, 13, of Lockport Town & Country Club, brought home last year's Girls' 14U Junior Amateur Championship after a final round of 3 under to claim the title by seven strokes. She is currently ranked 1,452 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings Statistics with a T14 finish in the Ann Arbor Preview. She was also the youngest entry in the Porter Cup this year at just 13 years old, where she finished T21. She is also a three-time Under Armor National champion.
Players to Watch in the 14U Girls' Field
Katlynn Smith, 14, of Rip Van Winkle Country Club, finished as the runner-up to Natalie Wasik at last year's Championship at Green Lakes State Park Golf Club. She held the lead through the first 18 holes but ended up falling to Wasik. She also finished as runner-up the year before at the Lake Placid Club. This year, she competed in both the NYS Women's Amateur at St. George's Golf and Country Club and the Girls' 18U Junior Amateur Championship. She's played recently at Eagle Crest in the NENY PGA JGT Summer Major #4, where she placed 2nd.
Hailey Yap, 14, of Youth on Course-MGA, recently brought home the 27th MGA Women's Public Links Championship at River Vale Country Club, finishing at 3-over. She also placed 5th in the Future Series: Bethpage Blue, where she had rounds of 73-83 (12 over par).
Claire Brady, 14, of East Aurora Country Club, last year placed solo 5th in the Girls' 14U Junior Amateur Championship at Green Lakes State Park GC. This year, she captured the BDGA Erie County Amateur Championship. She also came in 16th in the NYSPHSAA Girls' Golf Championship at Wildwood Country Club.
Maddie Chang, 13, of MET PGA Junior Golf Club, recently finished runner-up in the Connecticut Junior PGA Championship. She also has a couple of top 10 finishes this year, placing 6th in both the Matthew NeSmith Junior Championship and the 2025 Scott Robertson Memorial.

Eagle Crest Golf Club in Clifton Park, New York, is a public 18‑hole championship course that plays as a par‑72 and stretches from approximately 5,600 to over 7,100 yards depending on tee selection that offers four sets of tees to suit golfers of every skill level. Initially opened in the early 1960s, the course is known for its well‑maintained greens, many of which feature two tiers and subtle undulations and its strategic layout designed by Gino Turchi.
