PGA Tour Rookie Cameron Young Shines at Genesis Invitational
JAMESVILLE, N.Y. – Cameron Young is a PGA Tour rookie on the rise. The 24-year-old caught the golf world’s attention this past weekend during the 2022 Genesis Invitational.
The Scarborough native shined under the spotlight at historic Riviera Country Club. He finished the weekend in a tie for second and was in contention throughout, despite a wire-to-wire and record-breaking victory by another young star, Joaquin Niemann.

Young caught fire during the opening rounds with 66-62 on historic layout. On Saturday and Sunday, he was in the final pairing beside tournament leader Niemann, and finished just two strokes back at 17-under.
His result at Riviera secures him entry into the upcoming PGA Championship and WGC-Dell Match Play. He is now 17th on the FedEx Cup points list, and jumped from 113th to 53rd on the Official World Golf Ranking this week.
In 2022, he’s made six of nine cuts, and has finished tied for runner-up twice. His other second-place finish came during the Sanderson Farm Championship this past fall.
Young turned professional after graduating from Wake Forest in 2019, and thrived during a stint on the Korn Ferry Tour from 2020-2021; winning two consecutive events, finishing the season in the Top 25 to secure his PGA Tour card.
Young grew up playing at Sleepy Hollow Country Club where his father, David, is the director of golf. During his amateur years, he won a slew of Metropolitan Golf Association and Westchester Golf Association events. In 2017, he won the New York State Open, becoming the only amateur to have done so.
