NYSGA Accepts 150+ Entries for 78th NYS Boys' Junior Amateur

JAMESVILLE, N.Y. – The New York State Golf Association (NYSGA) has accepted a total of 151 entries for the 2019 New York State Boys’ & Girls’ Junior Amateur Championships at Seven Oaks Golf Club in Hamilton, N.Y. The championship will be conducted at Colgate University’s course for a fourth consecutive year and sixth time in the championship’s history.

To be eligible, a player must have an active Handicap Index and be a resident of New York State, or, if not a resident, are dues paying members of an NYSGA member club.
 
The Boys’ Junior is for male amateur golfers ages 15-18. The Boys’ Sub-Junior is for males ages 14 and under. The Girls’ Junior is for female amateur golfers ages 18 and under. The age division a player is eligible for is determined by their age as of July 24, 2019.
 
Among this year’s total are 20 players in the Boys’ Junior who are fully exempt into this championship.
 
Sectional qualifying, played over 18 holes, will be conducted for players in the Boys’ Junior at 13 sites around New York from Friday, June 28 to Tuesday, July 16 at the following venues:

July 1 – Colonie G&CC* (Albany) – 16/7
July 1 – Tuscarora GC* (Syracuse) – 9/4
July 2 – Mill Pond GC* (Long Island) – 13/5
July 2 – Willowbrook (Buffalo) – 16/6
July 7 – Elmira CC* (Elmira) – 6/2
July 14 – Malone GC* (N. Country) – 4/2
July 15 – Mendon GC* (Rochester) – 14/6
July 16 – Wiltwyck* (Hudson Valley) – 17/7
 
*Denotes dual qualifier (NYS Men’s Amateur Championship & NYS Boys’ Junior Amateur). Boys’ Junior golfers (ages 15-18) may attempt to qualify for both championships simultaneously.
 
Any players tied for the last qualifying spot or any alternate position (2 alternates for fields with over 10 players, 1 alternate for fields under 10 players) at a qualifier will compete in a hole-by-hole playoff to determine who advances. If a playoff is impossible due to weather or darkness, the USGA method of matching scorecards will be used.
 
The Boys’ Sub-Junior and the Girls’ Junior will not have sectional qualifying this season. All registered participants will be invited to compete in the 2019 championship.

The number of exempt players into the championship could increase based on the performance of amateurs in other regional championships and tournaments around New York State (see below).

E1. Past winners of the NYS Boys' Junior & Sub-Junior Amateur Championship.
E2. From the 2018 NYS Boys' Junior Amateur Championship, the 10 lowest scorers and anyone tied for 10th place.
E3. Winner and runner-up of the  2018 NYS Boys' Sub-Junior Amateur Championship.
E4. From the 2019 NYSPHSAA Boys Golf Championship, the top-5 finishers and anyone tied for 5th place.
E5. Winner of the 2019 NYS PGA Boys' Junior Championship.
