Moore's Monthly: 2023 NYSGA Championships
A monthly column from the NYSGA’s Executive Director, Bill Moore
It is hard to believe, but another championship season has come to a close. It may seem hard to believe, but over the last four and a half months a member of our staff was on site at a total of 162 events in all corners of the state. On June 26th alone we ran 5 events on the same day! Needless to say our staff has earned some well deserved time off.
First and foremost I want to thank our member clubs (and their memberships) out there for sacrificing a day or more of golf in our already short season to test the best golfers in New York State. I know it isn’t easy to hear that the NYSGA is having an event at your golf course on a day you had hoped to play, but we hope that our golfers left your club with an appreciation for your facility and its hospitality.
Secondly, I would like to thank the volunteers of the NYSGA. Whether you rate our member clubs, work as a Rules Official, or even just come by to assist us in player registration, know that your contribution is appreciated. We wouldn’t be able to run these events without your help.
To our full time staff - thank you. I know it isn’t easy to be away from home and your families during the summer months but in order for us to do what we do it is part of the job. Hopefully over the next month you can get some fall golf in as we plan for 2024 and beyond. In addition - thanks to our intern class this year. Chrissy, Damian, Alex, Chris…we hope you have learned a few things and had some fun in the process.
Finally, thank you to our players. Whether you are competing locally, in a regional event, our Amateur Series, or at a State Championship, know that we are glad that you circled your calendar to play in one or more of our events. We hope you know that we are working just as hard on making our events the very best they can be as you are working to win them.
