May, Mullin, Oswald to Represent N.Y.S. in USGA Women's State Team Championship
The 2015 USGA Women's State Team Championship will be played Thursday, Sept. 10 - Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
The format for the tournament is 54 holes of individual stroke play. After 36 holes, the field will be cut to the low 21 teams, plus ties, for the final round of the competition. The team score is comprised of the two lowest scores of the team’s three individual players from each round, and the team with the lowest aggregate score through 54 holes is the champion. If there is a tie after the final round, the score from the team’s non-scoring player is used to break the deadlock. If the score remains tied, the second-round score from the non-scoring player is used.
Lindsay May, 15, of Auburn, is a two-time New York state high school golf champion (2014-15), winning as an eighth and ninth grader. She finished runner-up at the 2015 New York State Women’s Amateur Championship at Tuscarora GC in Marcellus, N.Y.
Dani Mullin, 25, of West Islip, won the 2015 New York State Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Tuscarora GC in Marcellus, N.Y. In college, she played golf for Elon University.
Ellen Oswald, 25, of New City, won the 2013 Women’s Metropolitan Golf Association Match Play and Stroke Play championships. In 2012, Oswald won the New York State Women’s Amateur Championship at Seneca Falls CC in Seneca Falls, N.Y.
This is the 11th USGA Women’s State Team Championship. The competition, as well as the Men’s State Team Championship, grew out of the USGA’s centennial celebration in 1995. USGA officials believed a new championship, one in which each state could be represented by amateur, non-college golfers, was an appropriate way to cap the USGA’s yearlong birthday celebration. Deemed a success, the USGA has continued to conduct the championship biennially.
In rounds 1 & 2 of the tournament, the N.Y.S. team is paired with players from Missouri and Massachusetts. In round 1, the N.Y.S. team will tee off hole #10; May will tee off at 9:05 a.m., Oswald will tee off at 9:15 a.m., Mullin will tee off at 9:25 a.m. To view full pairings for rounds 1 & 2, click here.
