Kaul, Lewis Set to Represent NY at 62nd U.S. Senior Women's Amateur

SEATTLE, WA – A pair of Empire State Golfers will tee it up at Broadmoor Golf Club for the 62nd U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur September 21-26, 2024. 

One of the competitors, Kim Kaul of Colden, is a six time New York State champion. She is making her third consecutive appearance at the USGA Championship. 

LeeAnn Lewis of West Gilgo Beach will join Kaul in the Pacific Northwest.

The 62nd playing of the event will feature 36 holes of stroke play on each of Saturday and Sunday. After 36 holes, the field will be cut, with the top 64 players advancing to the match play bracket. Five 18 hole rounds of match play will follow in the next four days, with the championship match to be contested between the two finalists on Thursday September 26. 

The winner of the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur will be awarded a gold medal and custody of the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Trophy for the next year. In addition, the winner will be exempted from qualifying for the next 10 U.S. Senior Women’s Amateurs as well as the next two U.S. Senior Women’s Opens, U.S. Women’s Amateurs and U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateurs.

The host of this year’s tournament, Broadmoor Golf Club, was designed by A. Vernon Macan. The course, which was opened in 1927, is hosting its fifth USGA Championship. The club played host to the 1961 Girls’ Junior Amateur, 1974 and 1984 Women’s Amateurs and 1996 Senior Women’s Amateur. 

The course, which borders Lake Washington and the Washington Park Arboretum, will measure 5,611 yards and will play to a par of 34-36-70. 

Kim Kaul was one of two players to qualify at Ligonier Country Club in Pennsylvania. Kaul, 66, posted a six over 78 to advance to yet another U.S. Women’s Senior. Kaul is a six-time NYS Champion, including winning the NYS Women’s Senior Amateur three times (‘08, ‘15, ‘18). She is coming off a runner-up finish at this year’s Women’s Senior Amateur, finishing one stroke behind Teresa Cleland. In addition to the three Women’s Senior titles, Kaul has also won the Senior Mixed Team and two Senior Four-Balls. She has made the stroke play cut three times in the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur and is a 2012 Inductee into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame. 

LeeAnn Lewis turned in a four-over 77 at Riverton Country Club in a local qualifier hosted by the Golf Association of Philadelphia. This year’s Women’s Senior Amateur will be Lewis’ 21st appearance at a USGA Championship. Lewis won the 49th MGA/MGWA Mixed Pinehurst Championship in 2012 with Peter Ganley. In 2017, she represented New York at the U.S. Women's State Team Championship alongside Ina Kim-Schaad and Marianna Monaco. The trio led after the first two rounds and ended up T5 at the National Championship. The 61-year-old is the former President and Green’s Chair of Southward Ho Country Club on Long Island.
