Joseph Dolezal Rises Up in Playoff, Captures NYSPHSAA Boys Golf Championship
ELMIRA, N.Y. – Joseph Dolezal claimed the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) 2024 Boys Golf State Championship at Mark Twain Golf Course.

After opening with a four-under 68 on Sunday, the senior from The Wheatley School on Long Island entered the final round with a two stroke lead. Ken Fernandes, a freshman from Horace Greeley HS in Westchester County caught fire early on Monday, making five birdies and an eagle to force a playoff after 36 holes of play.
Dolezal held strong down the stretch, making a clinching par on the second playoff hole for the victory. His final-round 70 brought him to six under par for the two-day tournament.
Fernandes finished as the runner-up, also at six under par. His final-round 67 tied with Union Endicott senior Brody Burgess for the lowest of the tournament.
Josh Van, a sophomore from Newburgh Free Academy finished in solo third after a 70-69 (-5) tournament. Burgess, along with junior Evan Steffen of Maple Grove HS, finished T4 at three under.
Bryan Zhao, a junior from Jericho HS ended the tournament at two under par to claim sixth place while Leo Chu, a junior from Scarsdale HS finished in seventh at one under.
Players advanced to the state championship via sectional qualifying.
