Jackson Saroney Makes History as Section III Boy's State Champion

CHURCHVILLE, N.Y.Jackson Saroney claimed the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) 2025 Boys Golf State Championship at Mill Creek Golf Club in Churchville on Monday.

After opening with a four-under 67 on Sunday, the senior from Jamesville-Dewitt High School in Syracuse entered the final round with a one stroke lead. Saroney posted a final round six-under 65 running away from the rest of the field, winning by six-strokes. His 36-hole total of 132 is the lowest in NYSPHSAA golf history. Saroney is committed to play collegiate golf at Penn State next year.

Saroney brought home the first section III title since 2013. Along with that the team also won the overall championship with a score of +38.

Posting five birdies in round one and seven in round two, between both days combined for only two bogeys. CJ Strong, a senior at Christian Brothers Academy (Albany), was one of this year’s runners up posting four-under for the two days with scores of 70-68. Strong is committed to play collegiate golf at Assumption University. Joe Carey from Yorktown High school also posted four-under for the tournament with scores of 68-70. He was also a runner-up for this year's State Championship.

Josh Yan (Newburgh Free Academy) carded one-under for the tournament, shooting 73-68 and claimed solo fourth being the last player in red figures for the championship. Last year’s NYS Boys’ 14U champion Tanner Latorre (Ichabod Crane H.S) shot 73-70 for the tournament while Zach Berger (Westhampton Beach H.S) finished his rounds with 69-74 both tied for fifth place at one-over. Coming in at seventh place Akash Agarwal, (Friends Academy) and Danny Young (Westhill H.S) posting identical 72-74 for the two day championship coming in at four-over par. Wrapping up the top-ten was Yiwen Wang (Eastchester) (75-72), and Brody Burgess (Victor H.S) (71-76), at five-over par.

Players advanced to the state championship via sectional qualifying.
