Four NYS Teams Compete at 61st Williamson Cup

QUEBEC - Four New York State teams competed in the 61st Williamson Cup at Club De Golf Laval Sur Le Lac last week, August 4-5.

The teams included the Metropolitan Golf Association (MGA), Syracuse District Golf Association (SDGA), Buffalo District Golf Association (BDGA), and Rochester District Golf Association (RDGA). 

The Williamson Cup is a junior event, where nine northeast golf associations face off in a 36-hole stroke play format. Each association is represented by four junior players, with the best three scores from each round counting towards the team's overall score.

The event was established in 1964, by A. Fred Williamson in memory of his father, a longtime member of the USGA Executive Committee and one of the original founders of Winged Foot Golf Club.

The RDGA finished in sixth place, with a score of 32-over 458. Their team consisted of Ethan Domajnko, Reid Wilson, Joshua Bradley and Sam Eichas. 

The MGA finished in seventh, with a score of 37-over 463. Their team consisted of Holdan Schipper, William Milstein, Robert Giuffra and Zach Berger. 

The BDGA finished in eighth, with a score of 46-over 472. Their team consisted of Jack Tebeau, Cole Jones, Ryan Kelly and Adam Cichowski. 

The SDGA finished in ninth, with a score of 59-over 485. Their team consisted of Drew Mancini, Michael Stilwell, Kevin Waters and Patrick O’Connor.

Wilson of the RDGA was the top finisher from New York State, placing T-9 with a six-over 148 performance. 

Golf Ontario was the winning team, finishing at 9-over 435. The top individual finisher was Golf Ontario’s Spencer Shropshire at four-under 138.
