Eighteen Represent New York at 2024 Junior PGA Championship at Congressional Country Club
UPDATED 8/8 -- Kellen Dean was the top Empire State finisher at the 2024 Junior PGA Championship. Dean went 70-73 in his final two rounds to finish T20 at one under.
Both Josh Yan and Mitchell Archer fell short of the 54 hole cut. Yan turned in a third round 71 (-1) which left him just shy of the top 30 position required to progress to the final round. Archer struggled with a third round 82 and finished his tournament at thirteen over.
Sophia Li carded a 75 (+3) in her third round and came up two strokes short of the 54 hole cut. She finished at seven over par, the low female from New York State.
UPDATED 8/1 -- Four New Yorkers made their respective cuts at the 2024 Junior PGA Championship at Congressional.
Kellen Dean, the 2023 NYS Junior Boys Champion, went 75-68 to make the cut at even par. He sits in T17 and will enter the third round five strokes off the leaders. Josh Yan and Mitchell Archer made the cut by two strokes and both sit at T43 at the start of play Thursday. Yan carded a steady 74-72, while Archer executed a 12 stroke swing between his first round of 79 and his second of 67. At three over par, they are each eight strokes off the lead.
Sophia Li made the cut for her second straight tournament and was the sole female competitor from NY to advance to the final 36 holes. Li went 73-74 (+7) and sits at T50 with 36 holes to go.

BETHESDA, MD -- Nearly twenty junior golfers from the Empire State will be in the field for the 2024 Junior PGA Championship at the infamous Congressional Country Club just outside of Washington D.C.
Nine junior boys and nine junior girls will tee it up at the famed club, which has hosted three U.S. Opens at one PGA Championship. Congressional is also scheduled to host the 2027 KPMG Women's PGA Championship and the 2030 PGA Championship.
The boys competitors include Mitchell Archer of Syracuse, Leon Bui of the Bronx, Joshua Bradley of Rochester, Kellen Dean of Saratoga Springs, Tanner LaTorre of Nassau, Liam Maloney of Chester, Jackson Saroney of Fayetteville, Jack Tebau of Hamburg and Josh Yan of Newburgh.
Each of the nine boys will be making their first appearance at a Junior PGA Championship.
In the girls bracket, Delaney Abel of Corning, Renna Chang of Jericho, Emma Lee of Scarsdale, Jordan Levitt of Bedford, Sophia Li of New York City, Aliya Liberatore of New Hartford, Kennedy Swedick of Albany, Samantha Van Rohr of Loudonville and Caylin Wong of Great Neck will be the players representing New York.
Sophia Li, Kennedy Swedick, Emma Lee, Aliya Liberatore and Samantha Van Rohr were all in the field at last year's championship at Hot Srings Country Club (AR). Li was the only player of the five to make the cut. The 2022 and 2024 NYS Junior Girls' Champion fired four rounds at or under par and finished T6 with a two under tournament.
Both fields will utilize both the Blue and Gold Courses in Rounds 1 and 2, while the Blue Course will host the 3rd and 4th rounds. The Blue Course will play at 7,262 yards (75.5/137 ) for the Boys and 6,259 yards (77.4/142) for the girls. Each will play to a par of 72. The Gold Course will be set up at 6,790 yards (73.3/135) for the boys and 6,093 yards (76.7/143) for the girls and play to a par of 71 for each.
