Carter Takes the Lead After Shooting 5-Under 67 in Round 2 of N.Y.S. Women's Amateur Championship
MARCELLUS, N.Y. -- Larissa Carter from Auburn fired a tournament- best 5-under 67 Wednesday to storm into the lead with one round to go in the 86th New York State Women’s Amateur Championship at Tuscarora Golf Club.
Carter, a rising sophomore at Radford (Va.) University, recorded seven birdies and two bogies for her 5 under round of 67, and a two-round total of 1-under 143. “It’s my first sub-70 round in competition,” Carter said of her wind-blown masterpiece, which enabled her to pass six players and take a two-stroke lead into Thursday’s final round.
Carter, who started on the 10th tee, finished her round by stuffing two middle irons to within a yard of the hole on the par-3 eighth and par-4 ninth holes and tapping them in for her sixth and seventh birdies.
First-round leader Kyra Cox, a 15-year-old high school sophomore-to-be from the Centennial Golf Club in downstate Putnam County, carded a second-round 74, with two bogies and one birdie on each side of the par-72, 5,907-yard Tuscarora layout. Her birdies came on the par-4 seventh, and the par-5 sixteenth. She stands at a two day total of 1-over 145.

Two-time state scholastic champion Lindsay May, a club-mate of Carter’s at Owasco CC, is next with rounds of 75-73—148. Lauren Petty matched Cocca’s 71 and stands at 149.
A cut to the low 50 percent of the field, plus ties, fell at 162.
