Cameron Young Claims First PGA Tour Title at 2025 Wyndham Championship

August 04, 2025

GREENSBORO, N.C.– After a week of domination, there was no letting this one slip away from Cameron Young, as he brought home the 2025 Wyndham Championship, winning the PGA Tour title by six strokes (22-under par) at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The Scarborough, N.Y. native has a career seven runner-up finishes on the tour (since earning his card in 2022), but Sunday finally broke through to become the 1,000th first-time winner on the tour.

After the round, the first words he said were, "Where do I go? I've never done this before."

Young's day started with a bogey on the first hole, then followed that with five birdies. Nothing to worry about with a four-under front nine. Followed with pars on holes 10-15 and a pair of bogeys on the back nine, it didn't matter as a steady day for Young meant winning his first PGA tour event by six strokes. With this win, Young jumped in the FedEx Cup rankings to 16th.

The 28-year-old has been knocking on the door for a while now. This year was steady for him, marked by four top-10 finishes, including a fourth-place finish at the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club. Young was previously named the 2022 Rookie of the Year, along with being named to the Presidents Cup team that season. His best finish as a rookie was his runner-up in the 150th Open Championship at St. Andrews to Cam Smith.

Before his win on Sunday, he was the most successful player on tour with seven runner-up finishes without a win since 1983. He no longer has to worry about being in that number, as this one meant a lot to him. He had his father in attendance, David Young who is his golf coach and has been since he was a kid, and is a PGA Professional at Sleepy Hollow Country Club where Cam Young grew up playing.

Winning at Sedgefield Country Club also added another charm, as it is located in the backyard of his alma mater, Wake Forest. During the tournament, you could even hear "Go Deacs!" from the crowd, a nod to his roots.

In an interview with the PGA Tour this week, Young spoke about trying to make the Ryder Cup team this coming fall at Bethpage State Park’s Black Course, where he claimed the 2017 NYS Open as an amateur. "I have a lot of good memories there playing the New York State open. I'm sure a New York crowd would be on my side to some extent, so that's been a goal the whole year..trying to picture myself on that team."

Young is a highly decorated player in New York state amateur golf, bringing home several Metropolitan Golf Association (MGA) and Westchester Golf Association events including the 2015-16 MGA Ike Stroke Play titles. He was also the MGA's 2015 Player of the Year. In 2017, he became the first amateur to win the New York State Open at Bethpage Black.
