Sheedy, who’s a member at nearby Brookfield Country Club, knocked in all five birdies on his back nine to finish under par and qualify, after all pars on the front side of the course.
Lang’s round included four birdies and an eagle on No. 2 (a 391-yard, par 4). He was 5-under through 14 holes but had consecutive bogeys on 15-16 to tie him with Sheedy. Lang was the 2022 Golf Ontario Men’s Mid-Amateur Champion.
Arci had a similar story, where he was blemish-free with four birdies through 13 holes, before bogeys on No. 14, 16 and 18 down the stretch. He recently finished as the 2023 Canadian Men’s Amateur runner-up.
Another Canadian player, Mike Britton, shot even par to earn the First Alternate position, after an unfortunate double bogey on the seventeenth hole dropped him out of the red numbers.
Second Alternate was decided in a playoff between two players at 1-over.
The classic Donald Ross gem in Western New York setup to 6,852 yards and par of 70.
This year’s U.S. Mid-Amateur will be held at Sleepy Hollow Country Club in Scarborough-on-Hudson, September 9-14, 2023. Fenway Golf Club in Scarsdale will be the stroke play co-host during the national championship.
