Headlining the 2017 schedule is Bethpage’s Black Course, which will host the 95th N.Y.S. Men’s Amateur Championship in August. Bethpage Black became an American classic after hosting the 2002 U.S. Open, won in dramatic fashion by Tiger Woods. The New York State Park course has also hosted the 2009 U.S. Open, The Barclays in 2012 and 2016, and is scheduled to host the 2019 PGA Championship and 2024 Ryder Cup.
2017 will mark 50 years since the NYS Amateur was last held on Long Island. Nassau Country Club hosted the 1967 championship, won by John Baldwin.
The 88th N.Y.S. Women's Amateur, the second oldest NYSGA championship, will be played at the Schuyler Meadows Club in Loudonville. This will be the third time that Schuyler Meadows has hosted the Women's Am (1955, 1976), and second NYSGA championship the club has hosted in the last five years (2013 N.Y.S. Men's Amateur).
A new women's team championship is likely to be added to the 2017 schedule. The NYSGA is currently reviewing feedback from a survey focusing on a women's four-ball championship with two divisions: amateur (all ages) and senior amateur (50+). This format will see two-woman teams competing over four-ball stroke play, or better known as 'best-ball', with a gross and net champion awarded from both divisions. Expect more news soon!
